On November 17, Michael Erard wrote a piece in the Atlantic that features the work of the Digging into Data Challenge project, Trees And Tweets: Mining Billions To Understand Human Migration And Regional Linguistic Variation. The article, "Things That Make You Go 'Um'" discusses how the linguists on the Trees and Tweets project team analyzed Twitter data to learn about how both men and women, from different regions, use words like "um" and "uh."
To learn more about Trees and Tweets, check out the project website maintained by one of the PIs, Professor Jack Grieve of Aston University.
